Alex Urpí, CFA
CEO and Investment Advisor
Alexander Urpí, CFA, is the Chief Executive Officer at Emergent. He works as an Investment Advisor with clients through every step of the investment process, from financial planning to wealth management, in order to help them achieve their financial goals. He holds the Chartered Financial Analyst ® designation.
Prior to becoming a partner at Emergent, Alex served as a research analyst and portfolio manager at Cypress Asset Management from 2013-2015. In 2014, he co-founded Bell Tower Associates, LLC., an economic and investment research firm, where he worked on monthly and quarterly investment reports, portfolio universe creation, biotechnology research, and analyst recommendations.
Alex serves on the boards of the Community Investment Collaborative (CIC) and Charlottesville Scholarship Program. He is also the current President of the Forward/Adelante Business Alliance (FABA), a diversity networking group for Latino professionals. While under his leadership, Forward/Adelante received the 2016 Vanguard Award from the Charlottesville Regional Chamber Business Diversity Council.
Alex received his Bachelor of Arts degree, summa cum laude, from the University of Virginia.
Xavier Urpí
CIO and Investment Advisor
Xavier Urpí is a Founder, Managing Partner, and Chief Investment Officer at Emergent. He works with institutions in developing their investment policies, guidelines and strategies, and helps them to achieve their financial goals. He has over 40 years of experience in investment management. He possesses both the Series 7 and Series 65 licenses and is a registered investment advisor representative with Emergent.
Xavier worked over a decade at Lehman Management Company, jointly developing the Lehman indices, which are the investment industry’s standard for measuring performance of a portfolio against its objectives. Following Lehman, he worked for six years at Smith Barney Capital Management as Director of U.S. Fixed Income before establishing his own investment advisory firm, Cypress Asset Management, in 1995. He joined Cutler Investment Group as a partner in 2012 to run their Fixed Income department. In 2017, he departed Cutler to form Emergent.
Xavier currently serves on the board of United Way of Greater Charlottesville and as the Treasurer for the Forward/Adelante Business Alliance (FABA), a diversity networking group for Latino professionals. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mathematics and Computer Science from the Courant Institute of Mathematica Sciences at NYU and. He also attended New York University’s Graduate School of Finance.
Michael Urpí
Chief Analyst
Michael Urpí is a Partner and Analyst at Emergent. His work at Emergent involves data collection on financial statistics related to the firm’s fixed income and investment advisory work, including dividend and distribution yield data and comparison of funds to benchmarks for a better understanding of their return profile and investment bias.
Prior to working at Emergent, Michael was a co-founder of Bell Tower Associates, LLC., an economic and investment research firm, where he worked on the creation of research projects and white papers. His work included data gathering on Emergent Market stock prices and yields, data organization on monthly returns and management activity in the biotechnology space, and organization of returns and yields for investment-grade and corporate bonds for a new benchmark study.
Nickolas Urpí
Financial Planner
Nickolas Urpí is a Founder and Partner at Emergent. He conducts financial and economic research that the firm uses to develop investment strategies.
Prior to founding Emergent, Nickolas was a co-founder of Bell Tower Associates, LLC., an economic and investment research firm, where served as a research analyst working on monthly and quarterly reports, portfolio universe creation, biotechnology research, and analyst recommendations. Before founding Bell Tower Associates, Nickolas served as an intern for Cypress Asset Management.
Nickolas received his Bachelor of Arts degree, cum laude, from the University of Virginia.
Nicolas Toufexis
Nicolas Toufexis is a business and economic consultant for Emergent. He uses his 40 plus years of experience in the financial industry to help Emergent develop its investment strategies.
Nicolas has held a variety of prestigious positions prior to his work at Emergent. He served as a Managing Director at Union Bank of Switzerland (UBS), as Senior Vice President at Drexel Burnham Lambert, as Head of Global Mining Research at Prudential Bache, as Senior Vice President at Oppenheimer and as an Analyst at Paine Webber Mitchel Hutchins. He has been an Institutional Investor All-Star Analyst in two categories.
Nicolas holds an Honors MBA and Founders Day Scholar BA from NYU.
